The most common disease among bloodhounds is dysplasia of the hip (more common) and elbow joints. The deep chest, which is common in all members of the breed, can cause unpleasant phenomena such as bloating and volvulus, which are often fatal. Particularly susceptible to ailment are individuals who absorb food in large portions and walk immediately after eating. Among other things, bloodhounds have a predisposition to dermatitis, epilepsy, and anomalies in the development of the eyelid (eversion/volvulus).
