The stunted hound breed first appeared on the show in 1863. Once in the UK, the dog gained immense popularity. English aristocrats quickly noticed the excellent hunting qualities of the French breed and began to actively develop them. Also, the British practiced crossing Basset Hounds with other hunting breeds. The most successful was the combination of the Basset Hound with the beagle, as a result of which the breed acquired energy and a more accurate physique.
