The oldest mention of the rock comes in the form of a drawing on an earthen vessel, which dates back to 3000 years BC, with a simplified image of Alopekis, which is now kept in the Archaeological Museum of Athens. Therefore, we can view this dog breed as an ideal candidate for the role of one of the oldest dog breeds, if not the oldest. There is a high probability that the descendants of those dogs, migrating across Northern Europe with the ancient peoples, became the progenitors of such modern breeds as the Welsh Corgi and the Lancashire Heeler.
