The coat is very thick with an undercoat. It can be either long or medium length. The short-haired has a coarser, coarser coat. On the tail and neck, the coat is usually thicker, with feathers. The color is admissible red of different shades, chocolate, gray, black. White spots on the face, chest, tail, paws are acceptable. All-white dogs are rejected by the standard.
