The Border Terrier is described as having the shape of an otter, with a short to medium-length snout and strong jaws. The whiskers are short and sparse. The ears are V-shaped and curved forward towards the cheeks. The tail is moderately short, thick at the base, and tapering towards the tip. The body is proportional but narrow at the chest and hips. The legs are relatively long. The growth of the male is usually 33-41 cm, while that of the female is 28-36 cm. Males are also usually heavier (5.9-7 kg) than females (5.2-6.4 kg).
