The body of the Bergamasco Shepherd Dog is a square format. The length of the body, measured from the shoulder-blade joint to the point of the buttock, should be equal to the height at the withers. However, it is allowed (but not desirable) for the body length to be ¾ cm longer than the height. Well sprung ribs reaching to the elbows. The depth of the chest is equal to half the height at the withers. A slightly sloping topline extends from the well-defined withers to a broad, straight back. The loin is muscular and broad. The croup slopes slightly at about 30 degrees to the horizontal. The belly is neither sagging nor tucked up.
