The ancestors of the bearded collie appeared in Scotland in the 16th century. Until that time, there already existed herding dogs. In 1514, under the leadership of Kazimierz Grabski, a flock of sheep was brought from Poland. Together with them came the Polish lowland shepherd dogs. Seeing the work of the visiting dogs, the Scottish shepherds were simply fascinated and were ready to exchange several sheep for one puppy. By crossing both breeds, the result is efficient, shaggy shepherd dogs fully adapted to local conditions.
