The Anatolian Shepherd in Turkey is still used to protect the herds of sheep from wolves. At puppyhood, these dogs traditionally have their ears cropped so that the wolf in the fight cannot grab the dog at this sensitive place. On the neck, such working shepherd dogs wear studded collars designed to protect the animal’s throat from the teeth of a predator.
