Over time, according to the Guinness Book of Records, chinook salmon have earned the dubious title of the rarest breed in the world. At one point, only 28 dogs remained, and it was then, in 1981, that several people began trying to save the breed. Among them were Neil and Marra Wolpert, Katie Adams and Peter Abrahams. They were successful, but chinook salmon are still hard to find. They are recognized by the United Kennel Club and are in the process of seeking recognition from the American Kennel Club.
