Most of the valleys in Switzerland are isolated from each other, especially before the advent of modern transport. Many different types of Mountain Dogs appeared, they were similar, but in different areas, they were used for different purposes and differed in size and long hair. At one time, dozens of species existed, albeit under the same name.
