Make it a rule that young children can only hold or pet a Chihuahua if they are sitting on the floor. Always teach children to approach and touch dogs, and always monitor any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent bites pulling on their ears or tails from either side. Teach your child never to approach the dog when he is sleeping or eating, and not to try to pick up the dog’s food. No dog should be left unattended with a child.
