Hügenhund (Higenhund, Hügenstevare) is a breed of hunting dogs bred by the Norwegian dog breeder Hügen in the 19th century. For her appearance, ancient Holstein hounds were crossed with various local and German hounds. Their descendant justified the hopes of the “father of the breed” by combining the hunting qualities of their ancestors. The main difference between Hugenstevare and related hounds is coat color and size. The successful hunting breed enjoys steady popularity in Scandinavia, almost unknown outside its borders.
