Gradually, the number of animals increased, in 1972 the world cynological community was recognized, at the same time the first breed standard was described. In the FCI register, the Icelandic Shepherd has included in group 5 “Spitz and primitive dogs” (section 3 “Scandinavian guard and herding dogs”) under number 289. The last revised and updated standard is dated June 20, 2007.
