Canaan is described as vigilant, watchful, loyal and obedient with his family. He is aloof towards strangers, although he should never be shy, aggressive or very territorial. Its territoriality, which manifests itself at about 2 years old, makes Canaan a good signaling dog. He is bound to bark whenever someone approaches the door and calms down as soon as he makes sure you are in control. This is provided that he considers you the leader of the pack. If he doesn’t, he may try to manage things himself and make his own decisions about who is welcome and who is not. You must be ready and able to be a strong leader when living with Canaan.
