And although the Icelandic dog is a very ancient breed, it received international recognition only in 1972, when the ICF finally officially registered the breed standard. According to a report from the International Icelandic Dogs Cooperation (ISIC), at the beginning of 2018, about 16,000 individuals of this breed were registered worldwide. It was most widespread, naturally, in the Nordic countries, but it is interesting that in Denmark these dogs are a whole thousand more than in Iceland.
