An epidemic of an unknown disease that occurred in the 19th century, which first struck the sheep, and then passed on to their four-legged shepherds, killed almost all the livestock, as a result, the breed was on the verge of extinction. The government took up its revival, issuing in 1901 a decree banning the export of representatives abroad.
