An American soldier found a Yorkshire Terrier puppy while fighting in the infamous Pacific theater of operations. The dog was given the name Smokey, and soon she became a war hero. She first acted as a therapy dog, visiting wounded American soldiers. It was later used for more complex tactical work, where it connected the communications lines of an outpost in the Philippines. After the war, Smokey starred in films, and after her death, 6 monuments were erected in her honor.
