After World War II, the dog population almost disappeared. The breed was restored by a team of breeders led by Italian Maria Andreoli. The breed received the recognition of dog clubs only in 1959. Dogs now have access to exhibitions. But, despite the intensive breeding work, the breed remains rare even in its homeland.
