The revival of interest in the breed is associated with a dog named Smokey, who “fought” in World War II. The popularity of Yorkies is growing: in the AKC ranking they are ranked 9th in 1998, 6th in 2003, and in 2006, 2007, and 2008 – 2nd place, second only to Labrador retrievers.
