The Black and Tan Coonhound has a short, smooth, and rather dense coat. The color, as the name of the breed suggests, is black with brown markings on the face, chest, and legs. Puppies are born with pure black and red markings that appear when babies are several weeks old. Molting in dogs of this breed is almost continuous. In order to minimize hair loss, the Black & Tan Coonhound should be brushed daily with a stiff brush.
