The Basset Hound was born in England, although, of course, he is a descendant of the French Bassets. It can be assumed that French dogs appeared in England after the Norman invasion in 1066. It is known, for example, that in 1304 the Prince of Wales sent several of his short-legged dogs to Louis of France to hunt hares. They could very well have been the Bassets.
