Norwegian Elkhound is a medium-sized dog. They have a wedge-shaped head with a wide, rounded skull. The transition from the forehead to the muzzle is well defined. The lips are dry, close to the strong jaw. The eyes are medium in size, oval, dark brown in color. The ears are set high, of medium size, oval in shape, that is, their ends are strongly rounded. The neck is of medium length, strong and muscular, without dewlap. The case is compact, square format. The rib cage is moderately deep and wide. The back is straight. Legs straight, parallel to each other, muscular. Feet are compact, oval in shape with closed toes. The tail is set high, kept curled into a ring, covered with thick hair. The coat all over the body is shiny, hard, and dense with a soft undercoat. Forms a collar on the chest and neck, on the back of the limbs – fringes. The color is black. White markings on the chest, feet, and legs are allowed.
