In 2004, experts analyzed the DNA of Alaskan Malamute and came to the conclusion that she has a great genetic similarity to the wolf. It is highly probable that the ancestors of modern malamutes are domesticated wolves. The latter were immigrants from Central and East Asia, having got to North America through the Bering Strait together with their nomadic masters. It happened about 14 thousand years ago.
