Gradually, German breeders cultivated such external characteristics of dachshunds as short stature, short legs, an elongated body and head. All this together helped to freely penetrate into the smallest shelters underground. The final appearance of dachshunds was formed in the first half of the 19th century. At the same time, the “professional orientation” of dachshunds – badgers and foxes – was consolidated.
