At the beginning of the 18th century, a tense economic situation reigned in England. Prison cells were overcrowded by debtors who did not have enough funds to pay the required amount. The government made a cunning move by promising amnesty to those prisoners who were sent to settle the new colony in Georgia. Few prisoners reached the shores of America, but this was fully compensated by the relocation of immigrants from the working class who hoped to start a new life and escape from the hardships. Together with them, people brought the most valuable “property” – real bulldogs, who at that time were still involved in bull-baiting and retained their unbridled temper.
