According to the mythical version, the breed originated from Russian shepherds, which were circus dogs. The breed’s father, Scottish Lord Tweedmouth, allegedly bought them after a circus show, where they impressed him with their intelligence and skills. This happened, according to him, in 1858. Lord bought 8 dogs for a fabulous sum and began to breed them on his estate, near the famous Loch Ness.
