According to cynologists, the Tibetan Mastiff, which became the ancestor of European Molossians, stands at the origins of the Appenzeller Sennenhund breed. Before being singled out in the breed group, these shepherd dogs were called “hut”. Further subtypes were formed and spread throughout the territory of modern Switzerland. This is how Bernese, Entlebucher and other Sennenhund appeared.
